Are You Teaching Your Trainees To Provide VALUE-Based Care?

There is a national move to provide training in value-based, cost conscious care. This article describes a simple framework for assessing whether an intervention may provide value for patients. VALUE is an acronym for Validation/variability, Affordability/Access, Long-term benefit/Less side effects, Utility/Usability, and Effectiveness/Errors. The authors also describe specific and practical examples of how this framework can be used in residency training, including in daily rounds.–Sarang Kim, MD
